Note: The letter, headed at St Pierre, mentions, "a vessel arrived this morning from Dominica confirming..... the total defeat of the Republicans that landed from Guadeloupe in that island, 360 men laid down their arms and about sixty was killed; their did only ten escape which are now in the woods"
