Lot Essay

Caroline, the eldest daughter of the fourth Earl of Abergavenny, may have been introduced to photography in the early 1850s by W.J. Thoms. She and her sisters, who were referred to as 'The Trio' exhibited works in th first exhibition of photographs at the Society of Arts in 1852.
