Lot Essay

This album contains the presentation drawings for Wyatt's unexecuted designs for Mere Hall, Cheshire. Although his involvement there was previously unknown, Wyatt worked at nearby Tatton and also at Doddington, whose bedroom floor and bow window bear an almost identical resemblance to the Mere designs. Doddington also lacks a piano nobile. Wyatt's designs were passed over in favour of his nephew Lewis Wyatt's work, which was executed circa 1813. The Hall suffered a fire in the mid-nineteenth century and now bears little resemblance to its original state
