on piece 1871 (17 March) mourning envelope front used by the sender as a postcard and affixed with a diagonally bisected 1864-79 1d. plate 122 (in the belief that half an envelope should only pay half the postage!), the bisect uncancelled with manuscript endorsement "Not a perfect stamp" and black handstruck "2d." in circle alongside, "LONDON S.E" arrival c.d.s. and circular "MORE/S.E/TO PAY" at left, "LONDON S.W" despatch c.d.s. on reverse; a few small stains do not detract from this charming and most unusual item.
