A DIRECTOIRE ORMOLU AND RED-VEINED MARBLE MANTEL CLOCK of Campana urn form, the pierced domed lid surmounted by a bifurcated finial above an anthemion and stiff-leaf collar, the gadrooned and foliate everted rim above a circular enamelled dial signed G. Merlet, with both Arabic and Roman numerals and inscribed A PARIS, the beaded bezel set within a tapering circular Campana urn, flanked by draped female caryatids standing on scrolled, channelled brackets which suspend floral garlands joined to the centre by Mercury's mask, the spreading laurel-bound socle above a stepped red-veined translucent marble base with bead-and-reel stiff-leaf collar
