Lot Essay

This rare balance is a variation of Arnold's "U and O" in that the meant-time screws are in the same plane as the cross- arm extending beyond its outer extremeties. This variation is not mentioned in Arnold & Son (Vauchy Mercer). Tests to the cross-arm indicate that it appears to be wholly of platinum and not necessarilly compound with silver. A similar movement numbered Arnold, London 595 is described and illustrated in the catalogue of watches in the British Museum op. cit.
