Lot Essay

Born in 1847, Leysalle studied under Mathurin Moreau and Carpeaux. He became professor of sculpture at the School of Industrial Arts, Geneva and exhibited at the Salon from 1873. He was chiefly known for allegorical and genre subjects, of which the present group is a good example.
