This chimney-piece tablet derives from the painting by Vittore Carpaccio (1450-1522) of St.George and The Dragon, which is one of a cycle of paintings that Carpaccio painted for the upper rooms of the Scuola Di San Giorgio degli Schiavoni, Venice, between 1502 and 1508. In the background is the gate of Cairo and on the rocks behind the princess is the Church St. Ciriaco in Ancona.
