SPRENGER, Jacob and Henricus INSTITORIS. Malleus Maleficarum. Lyons: Petrus Landry, 1615.

5 parts in 1 volume, 8° (166 x 100mm). Titles in red and black with woodcut device, woodcut headpieces and intials, woodcut diagram on p.105 of final part. (Paper fault tear at outer margin of Y4, affecting a few letters of marginal heading on verso, Fff5 creased at lower outer corner with some loss of text, a few leaves browned or lighlty stained, possibly lacking a leaf of index in penultimate part.) Contemporary blind-stamped pigskin over wooden boards (lacking ties, lightly soiled, corners rubbed).

A collection of works on the magic and demonology, all published by Petrus Landry between 1614 and 1615. The Malleus Maleficarum forms the first two parts of the present volume: it is unclear from bibliographies whether the remaining three parts were intended to complete the same work (as seems to be indicated by comparison with Caillet III, p. 29, note to 7059), or whether, given the 1614 date of the penultimate work, they were published separately, and have been bound togther by a contemporary collector. The five parts are as follows:
1. Sprenger and Institoris. Malleus Maleficarum . . . Tomus Primus, 1615. This part also includes Johannes Nider's Formicarium de Maleficis.
2. Malleus Maleficarum . . . Tomus Secundus, 1615. This is divided into 8 sections, including writings by Basin, Molitoris, Gerson, Murner, Malleol, de Spina (2 essays).
3. Hieronymus Mengo and Petrus Antonius Stampa. Fustus Daemonum Adiurationes Formidabiles . . . Tomus Tertius, 1615.
4. Mengo and Stampa. Flagellum Daemonum, 1614.
5. Stampa. Fuga Satanae Exorcismus, 1615.
Due to the complexity of collation, sold not subject to return.
