Biebuyck (1973, Pl. 23) illustrates a similar head he found in an initiation basket linked with kindi initiations. The basket included wooden figures of both human and animal shapes, skulls of chimpanzee and young wild boar, and objects made of elephant bone. Similar baskets have variable contents. The baskets, which are symbols of the social solidarity and ritual autonomy of specific kinship groups and ritual communities, change hands as the cycle of initiations evolves. Each object is carefully interpreted in sung aphorisms.
