second (final) state, signed in pencil on the support, with an inscription 'Berlin circa 1897', trimmed to the edge of the subject, a small loss at the upper right sheet corner, two short tears at the left and lower sheet edges, a few short tears and handling creases at the edges of the support, all well away from the subject, some discolouration
