Philip Gell (1723-1795) eldest son of John Gell and Isabella (n/ee Jessop) married Dorothy, daughter and co-heiress of William Milnes of Aldecar Park. She married secondly Thomas Blore.

It is recorded in Reynold's fee book that Philip Gell paid 80 gns. in 1763 for the full length portrait with gun and dog that this enamel is taken after
