Gould stated that 'In the British Islands, the Little Ringed Plover is but seldom seen, and must be regarded as merely an occasional visitor...On the continent of Europe it is numerous, and there, as well as in India and the Crimea, it is a regular migrant.'

The adults are depicted with their clutch of eggs, and a young bird of the first autumn is in the distance.
