Lot Essay

A Reluctance to be categorised gave Joseph Oppenheimer an eclectic and varied series of styles, ranging from his early imppressionist manner developed before he first saw the works of the French Impressionists, to his later more expressionist style. He painted portraits, landscapes, seascapes, floral still-lives and other scenes recorded on his various travels in London, Europe, USA, Canada and elsewhere.
