Erma Barrera-Bossi was born in Yugoslavia in 1885, and received her artistic training in Munich. She exhibited regularly with the Neue Künstlervereinigung München between 1909 and 1911, and with the Blaue Reiter between 1911 and 1912.
A close friend of the artists within these groups, she is depicted in a 1912 work by Gabriele Münter in the Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus, Munich, in conversation with Wassily Kandinsky in the house in Murnau he shared with Münter. Barrera-Bossi's own work is also represented in the Lenbachhaus, Munich.
