'Abdullah Bokhari (fl.1725-50 AD) was one of the two great eighteenth century Turkish painters. Like his contemporary, Levni, he painted mainly individual scenes for the albums of collectors, specialising particularly in flowers and single female figures. However erotica was much in vogue and was considered perfectly respectable subject matter. For a similar painting sold in these Rooms see, 19 October 1993, lot 101.
