This fragment is part of the 200m long dado inscription panel once around the courtyard of the palace of Mas'ud III in Ghazni. The inscription consisted of two qasidehs, which can only be partly reconstructed. It constitutes the earliest inscription in modern Persian from the Islamic period. A similar, but larger fragment, belongs to the Linden-Museum, Stuttgart (Kalter, J. and Pavaloi, M., Linden-Museum Stuttgart, Abteilungsfrer Islamischer Orient, Stuttgart 1987, p. 62, fig. 53). The inscription has been published by A. Bombacci: The Kufic Inscription in Persian Verses in the Court of the Royal Palace of Mas'ud III at Ghazni, IsMEO, Rome 1966).
