AN OTTOMAN SILVER TRAVELLING SCRIBE'S SET (davat) of typical form, the pen case plain except for the gilt floral engraved terminals, one comprising the hinged cover with attachment loop, the inkwell similar with floral engraved base, two small side panels and band around the top, with oval hinged cover and attachment loop at base, both pieces marked with the tughra of Sultan Mahmoud II (1809-1837), the pen case also with the maker's mark of Sayyid Hasan (gilding rubbed)
