Lot Essay

Alexandre Maigret was a leading royal furniture supplier during the Empire period and in 1812 he cliaied the title of tapissier et fabricant de meubles d'ébénisterie de S.M. l'Empereur et Roi de Rome. He was owed considerable amounts of money by the Garde-Meuble at the Restoration of the monarchy, of which he was paid very little indeed.
This table is characteristic of his work using the highest quality mahogany with few mounts but in a markedly neo-classical way. A gueridon with a star-shaped base was sold anonymously, Drouot, 18 January 1988, lot 132
