KUNZITE, AMETHYST, SAPPHIRE AND DIAMOND "PAMPILLES" RING
Centering an oval-cut kunzite, surrounded by a fringe of moveable pear-shaped sapphires alternating with diamonds, flanked by circular-cut amethysts, mounted in 18K yellow gold; containing twelve round-cut diamonds (with French hallmarks)--size 6, René Boivin

Born in 1864 in Paris, René Boivin explored jewelry design at a young age. Marrying Jeanne Poiray, sister of a famous couturier and the first female jeweler of the 20th century, they worked together to create bold and daring fashions of the early 1900's. After the premature death of René Boivin in 1917, Jeanne assumed control of the company and with her three daughters continued the same caliber of design for the next forty years. This "pampilles" ring was first designed in 1956 and became one of Boivins' most enjoyed creations. The dangling stones known as "pampilles," flare out with the movement of the hand to simulate the graceful and immediate response so easily associated with faceted pendants one might find attached to a chandelier.
