This letter appears to date from the second half of April 1963 - the L.P. referred to by Harrison is Please Please Me, released on 22 March, 1963, From Me To You had just been released as a single on 11th April, 1963, becoming the Beatles' second number one hit single, remaining at the top of the charts for seven weeks. Harrison refers to 'Secret' - Do You Want To Know A Secret was very much a part of the Beatles' repertoire at this time, having been released on the Please Please Me L.P.
From Me To You marked a turning point in the Beatles' career. 1963 was, in the words of Mark Lewisohn, ...the year that it all went beserk.... At the time of this letter, the Beatles' popularity was spreading outside Liverpool. They had played at the Cavern on 12th April, but, at the time of writing this letter, little did Harrison know that their next and, indeed last, appearance at the Cavern would be on 3rd August of that year. The group had just begun their relentless schedule of touring so it is not surprising that he did not know what the date was! It is likely that the Empire appearance attended by this fan and referred to in this letter and the one in the following lot is the Liverpool Empire concert on Sunday, 24th March, 1963.
