Provenance: T.B. Dibdin (presentation inscription from the author; inscribed "For T.B. Dibdin" in an unknown hand and deleted on front cover) -- Frank Brewer Bemis (bookplate) -- purchased from John F. Fleming, New York, 1 May 1970.
FIRST EDITION OF LAMB'S FIRST PLAY. PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY LAMB TO T.B. DIBDEN on the title: "T.B. Dibdin Esq. from the Author." ADDITIONALLY INSCRIBED BY LAMB on the front pastedown: "I am going out of town for a month; you should have had this before, but I have been at Dalston, where the Book was not. Farewell, You to the desk, I to the green sea, CL." The verses at the end include Mary Lamb's "Helen," her first appearance in print. Ashley III, p.40; Rolf/Livingston, p.47ff.
