Circular box, the independent cover, sides and base of bordeaux-red lacquer with fine black vertical stripes, the lid centred by an oval glazed miniature painted en grisaille with an allegory of Astronomy depicting two putti with a telescope and a globe, the miniature and lid within gold mounts stamped with sections alternating quatrefoils, dashes and leaves, the base and sides with fluted gold mounts, the interior lined with flecked horn
