Lot Essay

James Oswald was promoted Lieutenant on 28 August 1795, Commander on 3 January 1798 and Post Captain on 3 September 1799. He commanded Spider against Ramillies on 4 April 1796 and Perseus in 1799 as part of Nelson's command to the Bay of Naples and to the Castello dell'Uovo. In 1806, he commanded Phoebe.
