A FRENCH SEWING NECESSAIRE WITH GOLD IMPLEMENTS AND A MINIATURE
by Louis-Alexandre Bruneau (fl. 1823 - after 1834), the thimble marked, later struck with two Parisian post-1838 restricted warranty marks for gold, the miniature French School, circa 1775
Tapering flattened hinged ebony case of oblong section, the lid set with an oval miniature painted with an oriental gentleman wearing a plumed turban, grabbing a young lady wearing a blue dress with pearls in her upswept powdered hair, the interior fitted with gold-handled steel scissors, a gold-handled steel pear-pick, a scrolling gold needle case and an engraved gold thimble (one implement missing)
