A REGENCY WOOLWORK AND SILKWORK PANEL
Possibly Welsh, Early 19th Century
Depicting a courting couple beside a tree with peasants beside a cottage beyond, within an ebonized and parcel gilt frame, with a newspaper clipping to the reverse regarding RELIC OF OLD WALES...Plas Newydd, Llangollen, the home of the famous Ladies of Llangollen - Lady Eleanor Butler and the Hon. Miss Ponsonby - which was to be sold by auction, but has been disposed of by private treaty. The Duke of Wellington was a visitor to Plas Newydd in 1814, and the poet Wordsworth ten years later.
