Dated 1878, gilt special Paris Exhibition and impressed uppercase marks, shape no. 1986, signed and dated L. Solon. 1878
Of shield shape with tall neck and cup-shaped mouth moulded with anthemion and acanthus enriched in gilt, flanked by open upright scrolling bracket handles terminating anthemion, painted and hand tooled in white slip with a voluptuous figure of Dusk being bound by putti, the reverse with a mischievious putto chaining himself to a star, the foot with a band of honeysuckle, on a square black base
18¾in. (47.5cm.) high

Lot Essay

The plumed mark would indicate that the present example was made for and exhibited at the Paris Universal Exhibition in 1878.
