Each with moulded levanto rouge marble top with incurved sides and eared corners, above a conforming case with floral frieze above a central cupboard door decorated in colours with animals in a landscape, opening to reveal a single shelf, flanked by turned stop-fluted, anthemia and acanthus sheathed uprights, with quarter-veneered panelled sides, on tapered short legs, the lockplate engraved VVE.P.SORMANI ET FILS/PARIS

Lot Essay

The workshop of Paul Sormani was established in Paris in 1847 and exhibited consistently at the International Exhibitions during the second half of the century. In 1867, the firm re-located to 10 rue Charlot. On Paul Sormani's death, the firm was taken over by his widow, and later his son, under the name of Veuve Paul Sormani & Fils, from 1878 to 1934.
