Provenance: Conrad Seitzmuller (d.1490), chaplain at Brixen cathedral, with his obit and list of books left to the Poor Clares of Runcada, near Brixen.

The Franciscan Marchesinus wrote his grand dictionary to remedy the ignorance of monks. While he pays particular attention to words found in the Bible, the comprehensiveness of his work extends to discussions of orthography and accent, and he gives citations to other religious works. This book formed part of a gift by Conrad Seitzmuller to the Poor Clares of Runcada, near Brixen in the Tyrol, and the inscription on the flyleaf records the gift of this volume and of 14 other books. The first book on the list, the Margarita Davidica, survives (at Johns Hopkins University) and contains an identical book-list, headed by this Mammotrectus. (See lots and for other books given to the Poor Clares of Runcada.) HC *10551; Goff M-237; Pellechet-Polain 7526; Polain(B) 4550; Oates 149; IGI 6148
