CLEMENS, SAMUEL LANGHORNE. Corrected galley proof of "Note. November, 1903" added to the end of an edition of "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County," n.p., November 1903. 1 page, narrow folio, a few creases, with three pencilled corrections by Clemens (one a change of "at Oxford" to "in England") and a 46-word initialed pencilled note by him at bottom: "Private. It was at Oxford, but some idiot would be certain to jump up & say he wasn't an Oxford professor. Then I should have to come out in the Presbyterian Review & reason with him & say 'nobody said he was, you son of a bitch.' SLC." Headed at top of galley in ink in apparently another hand: "Add to End of 'Jumping Frog'" (probably 1903 Harper edition, see BAL 3477). The printed "Note" regards Clemens's mistaken impression (from a book by the British professor referred to) that there was an ancient Greek story similar to "The Jumping Frog."
