This is a great wine. Three notes: black strap in 1969, hardly any change in 1979, and, in 1989, still deep, thick and intense yet with a mature rim; an unusual bouquet, peppery, old spice, dusty, alcoholic and with a distinct tea-like scent - a sign of quality. Sweet, full-bodied, powerful, concentrated, chocolaty, touch of black treacle, excellent acidity to bear it into the next century. (M.B. GVWB II)
