SECTION EIGHT: CHATEAU PICHON-LONGUEVILLE, AND LES TOURELLES DE LONGUEVILLE
There can be few more striking, visible or impressive manifestations of the benefits of investment than the sight of Château. Pichon-Longueville as one drives along the star-studded D2 through the Médoc. Whether approaching or coming from Pauillac it stands out as a stunning, gleaming stone-turreted fairy-tale château, of perfect symmetry, flanked on the road, by imposing balustrades.
It has not always been so
The two properties of "Baron" and " Lalande", on opposite sides of the D2 ere originally the property of one family, that of the Baron de Pichon-Longueville, and the original château was on the site of the present "Baron". The estate was divided between his children and slowly thet two estates grew apart.
Château Pichon-Longueville was purchased by the Bouteiller family in 1933 (owners of Château Lanessan, Château Lachesnage, who also have an interest in Château Palmer), and remained in their family until 1987 when it was acquired by AXA - Millesimés. The château and chais have been completely renovated, and under the namagement of Jeqn-Michel Cazes and his winemaking team, the wine has gained one of the most formidable reputations in the Médoc.
It is quite unique to be able to offer such a span of vintages as this, and to have the opportunity to taste vintages both pre- and post- Cazes.
