Lot Essay

This cabinet is offered with a letter, dated 12 October 1887, from Charles J. Betham to his niece Fanny explaining the history of the cabinet. It had been bought by Brian Betham and described as an 'Indian Escritoire'. As a child Brian Betham had walked four miles to see the Young Pretender marching at the head of his Highlanders in 1745
