The present work is from a series of watercolours executed from the Rising Sun Hotel at Cleeve looking over the Severn Valley towards the Malverns. Paul and Margaret Nash stayed here from October to November 1944 and returned for Christmas and New Year (see A. Causey, Paul Nash, Oxford, 1980, p.467)
