2° (530 x 320mm). Hand-coloured engraved title with Atlas on the top of the world holding up the heavens, printed index on verso, 100 hand-coloured double-page engraved maps. (Some light spotting and browning.) Later vellum (lightly spotted).
De Wit's atlas was first issued in the 1670's with 17 maps; throughout the 1680's the atlas was expanded as new maps were produced, and by 1707 the atlas had grown to 170 maps. Some of de Wit's maps adopt a grid system of graticules, in the same way as Nicolas Visscher. Covens and Mortier were reissuing de Wit's maps as late as 1725. This atlas includes fine maps of the World, continents, Asia and the Holy Land. Koeman III Wit 8.
