Lot Essay

The animal support of this rare and beautiful stool is like those found amongst the Yaka headrests, with its humorous smile and half-closed eyes, as though ruminating a private joke, but the attribution to the Chokwe proposed by Mme. Huguette van Geluwe was confirmed by Mme. Marie-Louise Bastin. We are indebted to them both for their assistance.
