The service maker's mark of Frederick Elkington, London, the pots 1867, the remainder 1882; the tray W. K. Cowan & Co., Chicago
The service comprising teapot, coffee pot, two-handled open sugar bowl and cream jug, each vase form, on spreading circular base, with acanthus borders, lower body chased with radiating acanthus, applied two sides with bead enclosed oval cartouche, one engraved with crest, the other with monogram, the shoulder applied with putto mask issuing chased floral swags, with engraved ribbon-tied drapery swags between, the pots with part-acanthus clad scroll handle and spout, the hinged spool form cover topped by pinecone finial, the coffee pot-- 11½in. (29.21cm.) high, gross weight 86oz., the shaped oval tray with broad arabesque band, with grapevine applied rim, length over handles 30in. (76.2cm.) (5)
