With nickel-finished lever movement, 18 jewels, bi-metallic compensation balance, the engine-turned gilt dial, polished chapter ring with arabic numerals, blued steel moon-style hands, the circular case with blue enamel rim to the front and back cover, bow with blue enamel strips, monogrammed and inscribed snap on back (No. 406045), together with a associated 14 carat yellow and white gold chain and 14 carat gold and white and blue enamel knife, accompanied with original leather Shreve, Crump & Low presentation box, case, dial and movement signed, movement signed by retailer.

Lot Essay

Vincent L. Price (1911-1993), son of a candy manufacturer, was among the most familiar names and voices through of this century in cinema, television, radio and theater. After receiving a bachelor's degree in English and Art History at Yale, he moved to the stage, starring opposite Helen Hayes in Victoria Regina. His mellifluous voice soon brought him to Hollywood which suited him for countless roles as villains and demonic figures. Yet, he did not leave his education behind him, publishing over a dozen critical art and culinary books, while amassing a vast art collection, now housed in Los Angeles at The Vincent Price Gallery. His movie credits include, House of Wax (1953), The Fly (1958) and Edward Scissorhands (1990).
The inscription reads Presented to Vincent L. Price in grateful appreciation of long and unselfish devotion to the welfare of the National Confectioners' Association 1920.
