Lot Essay

Rodin entered negotiations to create a bronze bust of a young girl with the Compagnie des Bronzes in Brussels in 1872. The foundry made examples of Suzon in bronze, marble and porcelain until 1939. The influence of Rodin's teacher Carrier-Beleuse is recognizable in Suzon's smooth surfaces, the attention given to detail and the sculptor's romantic approach to his subject.
