Lot Essay

Acosta León's oeuvre is a representation of suburban reality, reflecting a hyper-sensitive appreciation of his environment. Machines and other tools of gigantic stature are depicted in a non-functional way, almost decomposing. Severo Sarduy wrote in 1990 that "Acosta León's paintings seem to screetch, in delirious rumors or tantalizing sounds of chirurgical instruments, where the wheels are those of a dissecting car; with the sinister, aseptic brilliance of a morgue."
