OAKLEY PRAISES THE ACT OF TWO FELLOW WILD WEST SHOW PERFORMERS

"I compliment you on your act. [I]t is one of the most pleasing I have ever seen. [I]f you go to England you will make a big hit. Wishing you the success you deserve..." Oakley (1860-1926), born in an Ohio log cabin and a dead shot from age nine, became one of the principal stars of Buffalo Bill's Wild West extravaganza. She toured Europe in 1887, charmed Queen Victoria and shot a cigarette from the lips of Wilhelm II. Oakley's letters are quite rare.

Cody 'Buffalo Bill'") to the Prentices, n.p., [1895], with an additional endorsement by Jule Keen, Treasurer of the Wild West Show, 1 page, 4to, on decorative "Wild West" stationery depicting Cody, three file holes in left margin and two holes at central fold (not affecting text), tipped to an album page, extolling the Prentices, who: "have been a feature with the Wild West Concert. Their singing and dancing is very pleasing and their acrobatic work is wonderful. Their act is one of the best I know of..." (2)
