A PAESTAN RED-FIGURE LEBES GAMIKOS
attributed to the asteas/python workshop
circa 340-320 b.c.
The A-Side with two nude women on ether side of a laver, both wearing jewels and slippers, the one on the left in a stephane, her right arm gesturing to the other who walks right but looks back at her companion, a red himation draped across her waist, a mirror in her left hand, a lion-spout above with water flowing into the laver, a small bird below left; the B-Side with a nude man with fillet and staff facing a woman with a beaded wreath in either hand, a skewer of fruit(?) in her left as well, a laver behind her; the two upright handles surmounted by knobs, the shoulder with palmette on the A-Side, stripes on the B-Side, a band of ovolo above the scenes, dotted on the A-Side, palmette complexes below the handles, a band of wave below; the lid with a partridge and a goose with palmettes in between, a band of wave on the rim, superimposed by a small vessel, one side with a profile male head, the other side with a profile female head, lines on the shoulders, details in added white, yellow, and red
