A MEDITERRANEAN GERMANIC OR BYZANTINE GILT BRONZE BELT BUCKLE

The club-shaped tongue hooked to the oval loop, both joined to the rectangular attachment plate by a folded flap pinned to the back-plate, the box-shaped plate with all-over cloisonné, a square in the center enclosed within a quatrefoil, inlaid with shell, green glass, lapis lazuli and foil-backed garnets, the corners with rivets for attachment to the back-plate
