A HISPANO-VISIGOTHIC BRONZE CHEEK-PIECE
circa 6th-7th century a.d.
The cast openwork disk with a projecting rectangular slot for attachment of strapping, the center with a conical collar through which passed the bit, at the top of the disk, an anthropomorphic head crudely worked, with scrolling serpentine tendrils springing from the shoulders which terminate in four zoomorphic heads, the tendrils with incised lines along their length, enclosed within an incised undulating line, the edge of the disk notched
