TWO MEROVINGIAN GILT SILVER BROOCHES

Both S-shaped, one with each end terminating in the head of a bird, the eyes a circular collar set with a flat foil-backed garnet, an open area between the body and the projecting beaks, the body with chip-carved ornament of transverse and horizontal ribbing, fittings in back for attachment of the now-missing pin; the other with terminals in the form of backward-biting animals, the eyes a circular collar set with a foil-backed garnet, the center with a rectangular collar set with a garnet, framed by D-shaped fields with chip-carved ornament, fittings in back for attachment of the now-missing pin
