The lamp was originally incorporated in McKim, Mead & White's building Gould Memorial Hall, also known as the The Hall of Fame, at New York University in the Bronx, in 1896. This lamp and others of its style were removed from the building's main rotunda, formerly a library reading room, in the 1970s. Gould Memorial Hall and its interiors are depicted in The Architecture of McKim, Mead & White in Photographs, Plans and Elevations published by Dover Publications, Inc. The lamp is originally shown with round shades, many of which were later replaced with half globes.
