DOMAINE BLAIN-GAGNARD
"This is a good estate that seems to get better every vintage. Worth watching" wrote Matt Kramer in 1990 (Making Sense of Burgundy, pub. William Morrow, New York). That trend has continued, so that its reputation now stands alongside that of the finest in the village. Judicious use of new oak barrels - never too many - is one of the hallmarks of the estate. Purity of fruit, with remarkable concentration, are others. Jean-Marc Blain loves the subtle, stony, white fruit aromas which come from his greatest vineyards, and these are memorably evident, once bottle-age has worked its magic on his wines. AH
