Details
MAISON CHAMPY
This is the oldest wine merchant in Burgundy, founded in 1720, with cellars in the centre of Beaune which date from the 1400s. Quality has been transformed by new owners, the Meurgey family, who bought the firm in 1990. One of the firm's greatest wines that vintage was its Clos-Vougeot, of which both bottles and magnums have been consigned from the family's reserves.

Clos Vougeot Grand Cru--Vintage 1979
Côte de Nuits. French-bottled: Champy Père
Tasting note : tasted by our New York specialist Per Holmberg in Beaune in July 2001, this showed garnet-red colour, with rusty edge, the nose being pronounced, aged Pinot, with sweet berry notes. The body was medium to full, well-balanced by acidity and tannin, the finish long. It appeared at its peak, for consumption over 2 - 3 years.

Special notice
Offered duty paid, but available in bond. VAT at 17.5% will be charged on the hammer price on removal of the lot from bond.
