MAISON LOUIS LATOUR
The present head of Maison Latour, Louis-Fabrice Latour, was born in the great 1964 vintage. 1990 is the outstanding vintage of his career to date (though he thinks it may be equalled by the 1999). "Montrachet 1990 is the bottle we recently opened to celebrate the Director of our U.S. subsidiary's 10th Anniversary," he says. "It is the greatest vintage I have seen, with super-ripe grapes which came in at over 14 degrees natural alcohol. As for the Romanée-Saint-Vivant Les Quatres Journaux 1990, in the last two years this has started to open up, and now has great richness, complexity and length. I hope to drink this the day I retire" - which one might calculate to be around 2030. AH
