A SILK-ON-LINEN NEEDLEWORK SAMPLER, American, dated 1848, worked in green, red, blue, dark and light brown silk threads in a variety of stitches with alternating alphabetic and numeric sequences above a band of scrolling stylized rose vines over an enclosed alphabet banding, above the wrought identification "Jane Oliver Mar 23 1848" over the wrought verse "At all times me loved us T'was for us he died Yet still hes determined That grace shall be tried" surrounded by stylized blossoming trees, urn and flower motifs, birds and a house, the whole enclosed by a meandering border of flowers and foliage--15½in. high, 10¼in. wide
